Luna La Union Short History

Luna-La-Union-Municipality

Luna La Union has a long and fascinating history dating back to 1587. Originally known as Namacpacan, “nagpakain” in Tagalog or the one who feeds, because the locality used to be a pit stop for travelers going to Vigan or Manila.

Namacpacan is also home to Doña Laureana Novicio Luna, the mother of the national heroes Antonio Luna and Juan Luna. That’s why on October 18, 1906, to honor the Luna brothers, the Namacpacan was officially named ” Luna.”

Over the years, the area has been home to many different cultures and peoples, all of which have left their mark on the land. Today, Luna La Union is a thriving community that is proud of its rich history.
